My aunties 21st birthday

On Saturday the 25th of august was my aunties 21st birthday celebration at my great grandmas church.when we got to the church we went and sat down at the kids table where all of the other kids were.when the rest of my family and my aunties friends came we started praying and singing.after that my auntie started to blow her big cake.when she finished blowing her cake we all sang happy birthday.when we finished singing my auntie starts to cry because we were all there for her birthday celebration.after that my auntie starts to say her speech.when my auntie finished doing her speech we all had to go and line up to get our food.my auntie's mum ordered people from a Samoan restaurant to serve the food for us.my auntie went to the table where her friends and family were so she can talk to them about how she was feeling and how she appreciates them being there.me and my other cousins were bored because we had to wait for ages so the elder people can get their food first.finally we got up and went to the stand to get our food.when we finished eating we went to play handball outside with the other kids.when i got outside I saw a bunch of kids lining up for handball.when I got inside my auntie told me to call the kids to come and have dessert.me and my. Cousin went and lined up in the line to get some dessert.when me and my cousin got dessert we went outside and ate there.me and my cousin decided that we should go and sit on the stairs to eat.when me and my cousin finished eating we went in the hall to watch what is going to happen next.when I got to the hall I sat down with my auntie and my other auntie's baby.when the music came on my auntie started dancing and so everyone danced.after that my uncles were giving money to the other people to say thank you.my auntie's birthday present from her brother and sister in-law and her brother's kids was to go to France with them.my auntie's brother , sister in law and her nephews and niece lives in France.they come almost everyday.after the dance was bingo.and after bingo we all went home.we all wished my auntie happy 21st birthday!!! Rm 9 Art with Mrs King

One afternoon Mrs King said that we will do some creative art. She also showed us some creative art for some inspiration. Then she gave us a piece of paper. First we started to think for ideas. Mrs King gave us some suggestions. I did one of Mrs King's suggestions which was a hidden face. It turned out not that bad and I really am very happy with it. By Hannah

Tennis Time!

I am very glad the rain didn't start until after we had started Tennis today! After being stuck inside for all of this week so far it was fantastic to get outside and have a run around.
We had a 45 minute lesson with Gareth and we learned about having a rally. Tomorrow will be great because we will be learning to play the game. It had better not rain.

Soap carving

Yesterday we did soap carving with Mr Kaukau he is Maori. He told us a story about his family and how they had to remember stuff and that they didn't have books. After his story we did soap carving. It was cool because only the year 6 got to do it, but at lunch time Luseta got to make one. I think that was not fair for the other year 5 people. When I was doing my carving mine looked weird, but there was more carving to do so I did it. Then the teachers and staff members had to cut the outside of it. But it still looked weird then Mr Kaukau cut a bit off it and it looked way better. I stuck paua shells on my fish hook. We said our Mihi and he started crying and he said it was tears of joy. At fthe end of the lesson we didn't get to take them home yet because he had to spray varnish on it to make it not soapy. By Tamatea

Soap carving.

Last week Miles matua Kau Kau came in room nine to tech the year sixes how to soap carve. So the bell rang and the year sixes where ready to learn how to soap carve. When we sat on our seats in front of us where tolls to use to carve the soap an there where brushes to clean of the little bits off the soap.So we thought that we where going to start right away but he was talking about why the boys have to protect the girls.it was boring but it was important to know that your parents are important to you.

Soap carving with Mr Kau Kau

On Wednesday the 8th of August, the year 6's had a fun day doing soap carving with Mr Kau Kau. He told us stories about people, and how we are so important. He also told us stories about when people from distant shores came to New Zealand. After, we learnt the process of soap carving. All of our work came out exceptionally well.

Mr Kau Kau comes to bishopdale

On Wednesday Mr Kau Kau came to room 9 to teach us some maori carving and some Maori backround. I walked into the classroom and saw a tall man and a strong vibe coming from his voice. I walked up to him and asked if he remembers my mum from the hospital and he picked up a wight soft blanket and hid it on his face because my mum and him go way back to when my mum was little. He walked up to the front of the classroom and he had his rakau in his right hand and put a pukana face on and started to welcome us. He told us about these 2 guys who went into the forest to hunt for some food because they were hungry. One of the men told the other man to be quiet and the other man said why,why do we have to be quiet? Because I told you to, ohhhhh said the other man they slowly walked into the forest but quietly and one of the men saw two birds and yelled look! Look over there! And all the birds took off and the man said look what you did but enough of the story and back to reality. It took him heaps of time to actually get to what were doing. He told us that we were doing soap carving for the rest of the day. He always did the steps before so we knew what we were doing. I had the most amazing day of my life. But I almost forgot he asked us to do our Mihi we all done our Mihi and he started to cry but they were joy tears. He did his Mihi and then he did a song for the people who died in the chch earthquake and I almost cried because his voice was so special and tender.

Going to room 10

On the 8th of August Miles Kaukau came to do soap carving with the year 6's so the year 5's got to go to other classes in the senior block. I got to go to room 10. While I was in there I got 2 caught being good cards to choose the two workers in the class and I chose Anaru and Jessica for concentrating on their work the whole 15 minutes. After lunch I went into room 9 and it smelt like soap everywhere and it was even cold. I saw Mr Kaukau and said hello then 2 minutes later he made me a soap carving and I didn't even know he was going to make me one. When he finished making me one he have it to me and said I'm special then I said thank you . When lunch finished Mrs Thoms came in to take over for the art interchange and we worked on Rumplestiltskin the whole afternoon.
