Swimming at QEII

I learned to back stroke and kick, and I learned to dive. We also learned how to survive if we fall out of a boat, and to swim with our life jacket. I had to learn to point my toes when I kick just like tip toeing. J. D.

Swimming in PJ's

Today we went in our pj's to swim to teach us survival techniques if we were on a boat. We did diving and back stroke. I felt heavy in my pj's. L.M.

Learning to breathe

I have kept my head out of the water longer. When they tested me to see what group I'm in I barely even breathed. But that was when I wore goggles. I don't wear them now. I wish I could see under water without goggle's. I felt nervous to start and now I feel confident. J.C.

Boat

The moment I found out we were hopping into an inflatable boat I was very nervous. When I went under the boat I thought I wouldn't be able to breathe but I could. It was hot under the boat. C.L.

Thursday and Friday swimming.

On Thursday my group learned to dive off the side of the pool and we learned to do back stroke. For swimming today we had to wear our pyjamas and togs. We had to take the pyjamas off in the pool and then we carried on swimming in our togs. We wore our pyjamas because it was some safety thing about if you wear clothes and you are in a boat and your boat sinks you would be in the water with your clothes on. B.M.

Pyjama Day

Today we had to wear our pyjamas because we had survival skills day. We had to do arm circles and backstroke wearing our pyjamas. I felt like I had put on extra weight with the pyjamas and it make me feel like I might drown. We had to dive in and do our arm circles all the way to the half way cone and then we got to do any thing all the way back. Then we had to go all the way to the other end of the pool in our pyjamas. We took them off without holding on to anything. We took a big breath and took off one thing and then another big breath and took off the last thing. H.V.

My Swimming Lessons

Today was the last day of swimming. I learnt to blow bubbles out under water and turn my hand to the side to take a breath. I also learned to do double arm circles, three over arms and then turn onto your back and kick six times. Then roll onto your front again and three over arms. I felt excited about swimming and I like going swimming every year. I think its a good opportunity to learn new skills in swimming. CT. L-B

Safety Skills

On Wednesday we went on an inflatable boat. When we did our fall off the boat we went under the boat. After that we made a little circle which is called a huddle. A huddle is for if someone gets injured they have to go in the middle because the water is warmer. C.S.

The Boat

I had to wear a soggy wet life jacket. We had to hop in the water and make 2 groups of 7. One group had to make a huddle. The instructor told us that if a person is injured they have to be in the middle because the water is 2 degrees warmer than the outside. We had to go in the boat and we got in by ourselves. We had to grab onto our life jackets and fall on our back off the boat. We then had to kick. M.A.

PJ Day

Today we wore pyjamas in swimming because if we fall out of a boat we will know how to swim with clothes on. Today was the last day of swimming lessons and I had lots of fun in the swimming pool. S.N.

Boring

On Wednesday I watched my class practise their survival skills on the Aquapro inflatable boat. I reckon if I was in the water it would have been really fun. I didn't go swimming but I would love to go another time. R.P.

On day six my group went to the deep pool to do safety in the water. We put life jackets on and then we jumped into the pool. I was excited. Then our instructor turned the boat upside down. We took a big breath and went under the water. We came up under the boat and it was dark. Then we dived back under the water and out from under the boat. A.M.

On Wednesday I went on the boat. It was an Aquapro inflatable boat. I had to wear a life jacket to keep me floating. We all had to make a circle in the water and the water keeps us warm when we are all in the circle. Then we got in the boat and we had to cross our hands across our chest. Then we had to hold our life jackets and fall backwards off the boat into the water. I felt excited about falling backwards into the water. T.A.

Swimming Lessons

On Wednesday the first group got to go on the Aquapro boat and have life jackets on for the first time. The instructor said that if you were in the sea without a life jacket you would drown. If you have a life jacket on you won't drown. At the start we had to do a pin drop. We had to cross our arms across our life jacket and jump into the water. R.O.

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

On Tuesday got on an inflatable boat. We had to wear a life jacket and it was really uncomfortable to wear because it was quite tight around my tummy. The collar on the back of the life jacket was annoying on my neck too. The boat was fun at first until I had to tip off the side. I was the first person to do it and I felt a bit nervous. Once I had done it, I realised it was great fun. I. S.

Learning to Dive

On Tuesday we learned how to do overarm using a board. We had to have one hand on the bottom of the board and used our other arm like a paddle. After we made it to the other end of the pool we got out and stood on the front edge of the pool. We curled our toes over the edge, bend our knees and put our arms out like an arrow. Then our instructor helped us push off by pushing on the bottom of our legs. I felt scared when he said we had to do a dive. S.T.

The boat

Yesterday I went in the inflatable boat. I learned how to survive if I ever get thrown out of a boat. We learned to huddle to keep warm and learned how to roll back into a boat. I also learned to cross my arms across my chest and float on my back in the life jacket. A.W.

Wearing a Life Jacket.

On day six I wore a really cold and wet life jacket. I couldn't do the life jacket up by myself and my instructor had to help me. The life jackets help us float. We learned to fall out of a boat and keep afloat. We held each others arms and we kicked on our backs all the way to the end of the pool and then we went back to the other end. I couldn't wait to get into the pool because I love swimming. M.B.

Today's Lesson

Today we had a new instructor for swimming. We learned how to do overarm using a board. We held the board in front of our arms and scoop the water up by bringing our arms up over our heads. We had to keep kicking too. We also learned to dive today. First we leaned over and touched our toes and they had to be over the edge of the pool. Then pushed off using our feet. We had to put our arms up and press them against our ears. My first dive exciting and I felt really good. Z.T.

Life Jackets

On day five, group two wore life jackets and rolled into a small Aquapro inflatable boat. We did a pencil drop into the water first and then we had to swim backwards up to the lane line. Then we swam forwards to the side of the pool and sit back up on the side of the pool. When we were in the boat we sat on the side of the boat. We had to drop ourselves backwards off the side. The best part was throwing ourselves off the side of the boat and the pencil drop. M.S.

Swimming Lessons

Today we learned to swim without a board when we were doing backstroke. We learned how to dive into the water, roll over and then carry on using backstroke. We also learned to float on our side using a board and kicking. T.T.

New Swimming Teacher

Today we had a new teacher for swimming. She taught us how to arm stroke and put our hand under the board. She also taught us how to back stroke and how to keep our hands scooping to help us move. V.P.

Safety lessons

Yesterday at QEII we got to go in a boat and wore a life jacket for the first time. When I put the life jacket on, it was wet and all soggy. We had to wear it in the pool. I learned that you can't drown when you're wearing one because they keep you floating. I feel better knowing some safety skills. CE

Swim fortnight

I am learning to do overarm using a board. We have to count to three and then bring our arm over. C. L. C.

Art Gallery visit

We went to the Art Gallery to see the Blue Planet exhibition. One of the art works we liked was the Reuben Paterson glitter painting. It was called 'A shadow born from three dreams." We saw Michel Tuffrey's recycled corned beef can bull. The movie up in the Blue Planet exhibition was really interesting too. We also had some fun with Claire in the Art Room. We made Blue/Silver glitter snowflakes designs. Part of making our design was to screen print the top coat of blue paint before we sprinkled glitter all over the painting. We made a really big mess with the glitter and the little pieces of paper from cutting out our snowflake designs. We all had fun and would really like to go back to see Claire and learn some more about making great art works.

Long Ball Game

On the 23rd March we had a game of Long Ball and it was fun. It was a big game because R9 and R11 played together. We changed sides after 3 run outs. It was really tiring because it was hot and the area we played in was big.

Game Sense

We have been learning about why we play games during school time. We are learning to co-operate and work together, listen and respect each other and most important of all... to have fun! Mrs H
